Destination Weddings: Trends, facts and figures every couple should know about it

The destination wedding has become increasingly popular in recent years. The idea of taking off to an exotic destination with just a few members of your family and close friends can be very appealing.

Not only will you be married in a beautiful location you will also avoid many of the hassles which go with the traditional wedding ceremony. A survey conducted in 2013 showed that one in four weddings now takes place in a different destination; the same survey showed one in five weddings were destination weddings in 2009.

Costs

The cost of a wedding with one hundred and fifty guests is estimated to be less than the cost of jetting off somewhere exotic with your family and friends, even on an all inclusive vacation. Getting married somewhere other than your home town also makes it far easier to relax.

Demand

The destination wedding has traditionally been the preserve of the older couple, people who have already been married and do not want the complications of multiple families. However, the younger generation has discovered the world is a much smaller place than it used to be. Many of them have a desire to travel and explore the world.  Many of the younger generation are choosing to have a destination wedding as it appeals to their desire to travel.

Location

Couples who choose to get married in your own town or area are generally most interested in having the ceremony in a place which has special memories for them, intimacy and fun locations come as secondary considerations. In contrast, those who opt for a destination wedding are looking for an exotic or fun location, intimacy and cost are less important.

It is also interesting to note that whilst eight out of ten weddings take place in either Mexico; the Caribbean or Hawaii. However, the beach is not the only place people choose to tie the knot. Anywhere is now a potential destination, even a remote wedding venue in Suffolk; from icy glaciers to olive groves. The world is truly your oyster.

Built in vacation

Opting to get married in an exotic location will often mean that you are already on your honeymoon. Many of these destinations offer complete packages and everything is organized for you. This means that from the moment you arrive at your destination you can relax and enjoy the experience. An added benefit is the infusion of local culture into your event.

Planning

Traditionally, weddings were paid for by the bride’s father. However, modern times have seen a gradual decline in this traditional and it is now common for the bride and groom to foot the bill. This gives the happy couple an opportunity to go anywhere they choose, without feeling guilt or worry about the feelings of the one who is paying the bill. It is still customary for guests to pay for their own travel and accommodation.  This makes it essential to plan your wedding as early as possible to give everyone enough warning to raise the funds and book the necessary flights and accommodation.

If there are any it is advisable to draw up a list and circulate it around your guests; this will ensure there are no last minute panics.
