6 Popular Wedding Trends for 2022

The last two years have been different. Some people thrived, others had a hard time, and many millions fell ill. But covid is, at last, hopefully, being pushed into becoming an endemic illness – one that exists in the community without doing a lot of harm – thanks to the widespread vaccination programs. And this means that we can once again pick up the threads of our lives, find a new kind of normal and get on with our lives. And that includes getting married! But what are the wedding trends for 2022, following two years of delays, deferments, and doubts? Let’s take a look at six trends that are already emerging as front runners in 2022.

Bows

Bows are everywhere! Small ones at the neck, large ones above your bottom, pretty ones in your hair, on your shoulder – anywhere that designers can think to put them! If they are not for you, ignore this trend, but if you are partial to a bow, then now is the time to indulge yourself and invest in a bow-bedecked dress!

Regency Inspired

Recent television blockbusters – avidly watched by millions of people who were not allowed to go out – such as Bridgerton and Sanditon, have created something of a mini-boom in Regency style dresses. These are often not just for the bride, but for the bridesmaids too. And, for once, men can get in on the pretty colors and sumptuous fabrics too: male Regency outfits are definitely more peacock than men’s clothing from other times!

Outdoor Celebrations

Given how long we have been restricted from having indoor gatherings, we have all become accustomed to spending time safely together by being out of the door. Outdoor weddings are great fun, allowing you to ramp up your guest list, and – as long as the weather co-operates – can make the occasion go off with a swing. Marquees, temporary bars, hiring chairs and tables – all of these can be cheaper than using the services of a wedding venue, and they can be just as beautiful, elegant, and even luxurious as you would like.

The next two points are polar opposites, but both are reactions to covid restrictions largely being lifted.

Big and Loud

Some people are choosing to go big and loud with their wedding, meeting up with as many friends, relatives, and acquaintances as they can, as if to say ‘I’m still alive, come celebrate with me.’ Having had a little social outlet in the last couple of years, these couples are seizing the chance to enjoy a total party.

Small and Sparse

The opposite reaction, despite having the same cause – reaction to covid – is seen in those prioritizing those who are most important to them. Small weddings, with just close friends and intimate family members, these ceremonies can be low-key, with the emphasis on communicating more than seeing and being seen.

Go Retro!

As well as the spike of Regency weddings, there seems to be a general revival of many other fashions: from flappers from the 1920s, all fringed dresses and shingled hair, to disco neon of the 70s, and even the odd Victorian bustle making an appearance here and there. If you have always been drawn to a particular time period, why not research their clothing and use it as inspiration for your wedding?

Once you have the venue and the theme sorted out, all you need to do is make sure that your wedding party can get from A to B: large parties will benefit from a party bus, while smaller ones will enjoy a dedicated limo service.
